Fanlistings

A fanlisting is a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject.

Omar Sharif enjoyed comfort even as a child. Born in Alexandria on April 10, 1932 into a wealthy Lebanese-Egyptian family, he was schooled at the prestigious Victoria College in Cairo where he excelled in sciences and first developed an interest in acting. In his early childhood years he spoke only French, but later learned to master six languages fluently. He skirted briefly with his father's lumber business for five years, but secretly yearned to apply to England's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. In 1953 he was nearing a positive parental response to his persuasiveness when he was offered the lead in the Egyptian film Sina Fil Wadi (The Blazing Sun) in 1954, which co-starred his future wife, Faten Hamama, who was then the top female star at the time. They both fell in love on set, and decided to marry as soon as filming was finished. He converted from Roman Catholicism to Islam in order to marry her and changed his name from Mikha'il Shalhub to Umar Ash-Sharif, more familiarly known as Omar Sharif, in 1955. The marriage ended in 1974.
